A Friend Like Me
My friend’s name is Ana,
A spunky little chick.
Be careful what you say to her,
She thinks of comebacks quick.
Ana is someone special,
Someone very unique.
If you ever need to talk to her,
She never turns the other cheek.
We met in the hospital,
For kids who are sick.
Never even thinking that
We would become friends so quick.
When I called her that night,
Like I told her I would do,
It shocked me to find,
She needed a best friend too.
A friend was something
We both were without.
But from the moment we met,
I never had a doubt.
We both had a story,
A story of our own.
The stories of our past,
and how we were so alone.
As we each took our turn,
Telling more and more,
We both learned fast that we had been
Through many of the same doors.
Although our pasts are different,
In many ways they are the same.
Each bringing many hard obstacles,
Which we overcame.
Our childhoods were spent in the hospital,
Because we were so sick.
We didn’t have much time to play,
We had to grow up too quick.
We both have our problems,
And that is easy to see.
But that doesn’t stop Ana,
Nor does it stop me.
Ana keeps me going,
Through the good times and the bad.
She can always make me happy,
even when I am sad.
If I ever need to talk,
I know just who to call.
Ana is right there by me,
Through the winter, spring, summer, and fall.
There’s never a wasted minute,
Nor a wasted call.
If we had it our way,
We would never hang up at all.
Although life treats every one different,
Death treats us all the same.
So when its mine and Ana’s turn to go,
We will no longer be in pain.
I want you to remember this,
When you have to let us go.
Because its really not that bad,
It’s not goodbye, you know.
Just think we will be in Heaven,
Standing on the streets of gold.
No more pain and suffering,
And our bodies won’t grow old.
You will be sad without us,
But what a party heaven will throw.
The thing you must remember is,
We will be with God, you know.
So take each day as it comes,
And don’t worry about tomorrow.
And if life should throw something bad your way,
I know you will make it through the pain and sorrow.
There’s lesson to be learned,
From these very words I write.
But each lesson is different,
So don’t be in fright.
Everyone will learn something,
Something different of their own.
So take the lesson with you,
And remember it when you are alone.
