Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic, or long-term, disease that slowly damages the bile ducts. Bile accumulates in the liver, where it gradually damages liver cells and causes cirrhosis, or fibrosis of the liver.

PSC Has No Treatment and Causes Liver Damage

Sam has both Crohn's disease and PSC.  They usually go hand in hand. There is no specific treatment for PSC but Sam has been on a medication called 'Ursodiol' which helps to increase bile flow in the liver. Unfortunately, he was taken off of this medication by a doctor treating him in Colorado. Sam's cholesterol went up over 700. He is now on the medication again, his cholesterol is in the 200's,  but the damage was done.

Sam needs a new liver.
